Continuing Legal Education

OTLA provides outstanding continuing legal education seminars, chaired and taught by the state's finest practitioners and nationally known speakers. Substantive areas of trial law (such as personal injury, products liability, professional negligence, workers' compensation, employment/civil rights/labor law, family law, business litigation) are presented. Informative presentations on trial techniques and settlement tactics increase knowledge and boost skills.

Programs are also available for sale on audio (and sometimes video) tapes. All CLE materials are on CD rom. New lawyer discounts on seminars make OTLA a worthwhile investment in your future.

Fighting to Keep Oregon Families Safe

OTLA represents the interests of consumers in the Oregon state legislature. OTLA fights to preserve the rights of clients - working closely with allies and legislators every legislative session and during the interim. OTLA is a strong, proven political voice for individual, victim and consumer rights.

Legislative Advocacy

The volunteer OTLA Legislative Committee develops positions and strategies with regard to legislation that impacts trial lawyers and their clients. A network of OTLA members are organized in an advocacy program, creating a mechanism for effective communication with legislators statewide. When the legislature considers issues that affect injured people or Oregon consumers, individual attorneys, who are part of the advocate system, contact their legislator to explain what's at stake. Through repeated contact, the legislator knows the attorney is a resource for information about the legal system.

Trial Lawyer Magazine

OTLA's own quarterly magazine features articles about new Oregon cases, verdicts and settlements, practice tips, as well as many other timely issues. The subscription price of this great resource is included in the OTLA membership fee.

Sidebar

This monthly newsletter published 11 times per year keeps members informed about new developments in the plaintiff’s bar, features on fellow members, and commentary from colleagues and allies.

The OTLA Membership Directory

This is a virtual "who's who" of the Oregon plaintiff's bar. The directory is cross referenced by practice area and geographic location. This comprehensive listing of all members, professional service providers, and national contacts is only available to OTLA members.

ListServ

OTLA members can communicate instantly with colleagues around the state. This service is available to attorney members and an additional listserv is offered for legal staff members. Getting on is as easy as signing a confidentiality agreement and providing your email address. Advantages include: brainstorming and sharing information, accessing briefs, opinions or useful articles, obtaining direction to other valuable resources - both internet and otherwise, and gaining access to listserv archives (messages have been stored in a searchable format).

New Lawyers Section

New lawyers get a chance to network with established and experienced trial lawyers from across the state twice per year at OTLA's New Lawyer Socials where they will enjoy music with Oregon wine and microbrews at firms in the metro area. New Lawyer Power Hours provide training and CLE credit on a monthly basis. New lawyers also receive significant discounts on seminars and special programs.

Amicus Curiae Committee

This committee carefully reviews and selects significant cases pending before the Oregon Supreme Court and Court of Appeals. When necessary, OTLA intervenes by filing an amicus brief on behalf of Oregon consumers.
